The Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall Association raised more than $25,000 to purchase 150 new chairs for the Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall.
HERTHA initially borrowed money to purchase 100 new chairs immediately and have now paid back that loan. The association is ordering 50 more banquet-style chairs to enhance the building’s historic character and complement the new tables and floors. Future projects include painting the main hall and repairing the foundation.
Paintings by Glen Arbor artist Harvey Gordon will be featured at the George Billis Gallery in the Chelsea art district of New York City from Feb. 18-March 15.
On display will be cityscapes, museum interiors and subjects from Leelanau County and Traverse City by Gordon. It will be his ninth exhibition in a major New York venue.
His paintings were shown at the Dennos Museum in 2012 and have also been presented at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Flint Art Institute, the Kalamazoo Institute of Art, the Saginaw Art Museum and the Battle Creek Museum of Art.
