Budgeting workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — Northern Michigan Community Action Agency is offering free “Introduction to Budgeting” workshops.

Workshops meet at NMCAA, 3963 Three Mile Road, and are designed to help participants change the way they manage their money. The schedule is: 10 a.m. Dec. 27; 12:30 p.m. Jan. 7; 5:30 p.m. Jan. 27; 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13; 10 a.m. Feb. 21; and 12:30 p.m. March 5. Participants who complete the workshop and need more advice may follow up with an individual appointment.

Ski with Santa

BELLAIRE — Shanty Creek Resort will partner with the Father Fred Foundation on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, to offer “Ski Free with Santa.”

Lift tickets will be free all day at Schuss Mountain, however skiers are encouraged to “pay it forward” by bringing donations of non-perishable food items and gently-used winter clothing for the Father Fred Foundation.

Christmas Eve

TRAVERSE CITY — Old Mission Congregational Church, 18687 Mission Road, will hold a family-oriented Christmas Eve service.

The service of readings and carols will start at 5 p.m. today, Dec. 24. For more information, call 632-4860.

Snowshoe race

TRAVERSE CITY — YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camp will sponsor its seventh annual Frozen Torch Snowshoe Race on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the camp, 1350 E. Arbutus Lake Road.

Early registration is $25 before Friday, Dec. 27; $30 after that date. The first 25 registrants receive a free T-shirt and all participants are invited to a complimentary chili lunch. There will be both 5 and 10K events with prizes for the top finishers. A fun walk also will be offered.

Truck driving program

GAYLORD — North Central Michigan College is accepting applications for its new truck driving program.

The 15-week certificate of development program will meet at North Central’s Gaylord Center on Livingston Boulevard. It begins with classroom, lab and focused independent study time and ends with a 10-week paid internship of on-the-road experience. The internship will require travel, depending on the carrier employing the student.

The program begins on Jan. 13, with program start times also scheduled for Feb. 3, May 12, May 19, and Sept. 2. Financial aid is available. For details or to apply, visit and click on “Truck Driver Certificate.” For help, call North Central’s Gaylord office, (989) 705-3775.
