---- — Holiday concert

ELK RAPIDS — Dominic John Davis, musical director for Willie Nelson’s 80th birthday party, will be joined by Joshua Davis and Rachael Davis for the Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall Association’s annual Holiday Concert.

The concert starts at 8 p.m. today, Dec. 20, at the Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall, 401 River St. Local singer/songwriters Dylan Sundberg and Sam Naples will open the show. Featured performers also include Rob Ford, the Elk Rapid Players, Joe Janisse, Joe Yuchasz, Terry Miller and others.

Tickets are $15 in advance at Chef Charles Pizza in Elk Rapids and Oryana Natural Foods Market in Traverse City. Tickets are $20 at the door. For details, call 267-5479. Proceeds benefit continued renovation of the historic town hall.

Polar Express time

TRAVERSE CITY — A Polar Express storytime today will include a guest appearance by Santa Claus.

The “Polar Express” will be read at 4 p.m. at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave., and Santa will make a stop to read “The Night Before Christmas.” Families also will be able to make magic reindeer food to take home. For details, visit www.tadl.org.

Hot Fudge tasting

BEULAH — Crystal Crate & Cargo will host a free tasting of Tracey Scheifel’s “Grandma’s Hot Fudge Sauce” on Saturday.

Scheifel completed Grow Benzie’s “Starting Your Own Food Product Business” workshops and was able to get her product on the market before the holiday season using Grow Benzie’s commercial incubator kitchen. Scheifel will offer samples of the dark chocolate sauce from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the business in downtown Beulah. For details, call 882-5294 or (800) 787-7366.

‘Amahl’ on stage

TRAVERSE CITY — The Mel Larimer Concert Series will present “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on Sunday.

The Gian Carlo Menotti opera sung in English will be staged at 4 and 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road. Soloists include Jeffrey Norris, Jon Oakley, Aaron Ingersoll, Ashley Larimer-Kelly, Eric Ranke and Jennifer Hogue as Amahl. Conductor Russ Larimer will lead a professional orchestra and additional singers from the church’s sanctuary choir and the community.

Live Nativity

TRAVERSE CITY — Bayview Wesleyan Church, 720 Wayne St., will present its 40th annual Live Nativity from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Call 947-3792 to learn more.

Holiday concert

LELAND — E Minor, Blake Elliott, Steven Leaf, the Accidentals, Miriam Pico, Mary Sue Wilkinson and Sierra Creamer will present a program of holiday music on Sunday.

“A Holiday Concert in Leland” starts at 7 p.m. at the Old Art Building, 111 Main St. The doors open at 6 p.m. with an appearance by Santa Claus and candy canes for children. Admission is $12 for adults and free for children ages 11 and younger.

Ski with Santa

BELLAIRE — Shanty Creek Resort will offer “Ski Free with Santa” on Christmas Day to benefit the Father Fred Foundation. Lift tickets will be free all day at Schuss Mountain, however skiers are encouraged to “pay it forward” by bringing donations of non-perishable food items and gently-used winter clothing to benefit the Father Fred Foundation.

Festival of Trains

TRAVERSE CITY — The Festival of Trains continues through New Year’s Day at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St.

Festival hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday with shortened hours until 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Hours are noon-4 p.m. Sundays. The festival will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For complete details, visit www.festivaloftrains.org or call 995-0313.
