Heart health program

GRAYLING — Dr. Todoroff from Mercy Hospital Grayling will discuss heart disease at a breakfast program on Thursday at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center, 308 Lawndale.

Chiapas Project reunion

LELAND — The Chiapas Water Project Committee of On The Ground will host a reunion for project supporters on March 1. The public is welcome.

The project was founded in 2005 after a group of northern Michigan residents visited Chiapas, Mexico, and witnessed the illness and poverty caused by a lack of access to potable water. All funds raised by the Chiapas Water Project go directly to material costs for water projects in the Mayan indigenous communities of Chiapas.

The event will be held from 6-10 p.m. at the Old Art Building, 111 Main St. It features food and beverages from local chefs, live and silent auctions and artisan goods from Chiapas. Lenten Luncheons

TRAVERSE CITY — Church Women and Men United’s Lenten Luncheon Ministry celebrates 44 years of community with this year’s Lenten Luncheon Series.

The series, started in 1970, will meet Thursdays March 6 through April 10, at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster. A sandwich and dessert lunch at 11:30 a.m. will be followed by music at noon and a Lenten reflection at 12:30 p.m. by a different pastor each week. A $3 donation is requested each week to benefit local missions.

Couples retreat

TRAVERSE CITY — Bay Pointe Community Church, 6880 Secor Road, will offer a retreat for married, engaged or seriously dating couples.

“Deepening Friendship in Marriage in a ‘Maybe I Do’ World” will be held from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 8, at the church. The $40 cost per couple includes continental breakfast and light lunch. For details or to register, call 922-9882 or visit www.bponline.org.

Transition program

TRAVERSE CITY — The Nursing Facility Transition Program is available to help individuals currently living in a nursing home return to their home.

The program is administered by the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan, Northern Health Care Management and the Disability Network of Mid-Michigan. To participate in the program, an adult individual must live in a nursing facility and want to move back to a community setting. They must also be financially eligible to receive Medicaid assistance.

The program is designed to help individuals overcome barriers to going home by developing a plan for each eligible individual based on their specific needs. Services may include help finding housing, setting up a household, making the home accessible, and connecting the participant with support services.
