Corrigan kicks off NWS

TRAVERSE CITY — Kelly Corrigan, New York Times bestselling author of “The Middle Place” and “Lift,” will kick of the National Writers Series’ new season.

Corrigan’s exploration of family life and parenthood have brought her to the forefront of new American writers. Her “Transcending” YouTube video has been seen by more than 5 million viewers.

Corrigan will visit the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St., on Thursday, Feb. 27. She will appear with Rich Fahle in his third appearance as a NWS guest host.

Premium reserved seats are $35 (ticket only), $52 (ticket and hardcover book). Reserved seating is $25 (ticket only), $42 (ticket and hardcover book). General admission is $20 (ticket only), $37 (ticket and hardcover book). Educators receive $5 off the ticket price with valid ID. Students receive $10 off the ticket price with valid ID.

Irish stories, book signing

TRAVERSE CITY — David McDonnell, author of “ClanDonnell,” and Jack Barnwell, author of “The Gardens of Mackinac Island,” will visit Horizon Books on Saturday, March 1.

Barnwell, one of Mackinac Island’s premier landscape designers, will sign his books from 2-4 p.m. McDonnell will host an Irish storytelling event from 4-6 p.m. He will share stories of Clan McDonnell and visitors are welcome to share their Irish stories. Library extends hours

BENZONIA — Responding to survey requests for an increase in morning hours, the Benzonia Public Library will extend the library’s hours one hour each day starting Saturday, March 1.

The library is located in Mills Community House, 891 U.S. 31. Hours starting Saturday are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays.
