Art exhibit opens

FRANKFORT — The Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts will host an exhibit of selected works by area artists Ellie Harold and Dewey Blocksma.

The exhibit opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 9, at the art center, 132 Coast Guard Road. The exhibit also may be viewed 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday; and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. For details, call 352-4151 or visit

First families

FIFE LAKE — Fel Brunett will discuss the first people to inhabit the area around Fife Lake at 7 p.m. today, Aug. 9, at the Fire Lake Library, 77 Lakecrest Lane. The public is invited.

Art opening

GLEN ARBOR — An exhibit of paintings by Barbara Doepke Cochran will open with a reception today, Aug. 9.

Cochran had a career in graphic design and in recent years returned to painting oils and watercolors. She spends her time painting in the Chicago area, Boca Grande, Fla., and Maple City.

The reception will be hosted from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St. The exhibit continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11. For details, call 334-6112.

Church talent show

TRAVERSE CITY — Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1050 Peninsula Dr., will host a talent show and lunch on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Weekend services start at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, and at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11. The talent show and lunch will start at noon. The church offers a nursery for infants through children in third grade, with Sunday School for children in kindergarten through third grade during the scripture reading and sermon time.

Blair library services

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse Area District Library, in conjunction with Traverse City Area Public Schools, will offer library services Saturday, Aug. 10, at Blair Elementary School, 1625 Sawyer Road.
