Volunteer Day

Traverse City — United Way of Northwest Michigan invites families to Family Volunteer Day on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.

From 10 a.m. to noon, families can make a difference by stuffing winter necessity bags for Safe Harbor, making table decorations for the Christmas Community Meal and children's projects. For details, email Volunteer Center Youth and Family Coordinator Amanda Hilt,

CD release party

Traverse City — M-23 Strings will host a CD release party from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Outre Lounge at the InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St.

Holiday Art Bazaar

Petoskey — Crooked Tree Arts Center's Holiday Arts Bazaar is under way and continues through Dec. 19.

The bazaar features work from more than 65 artisans including more than 20 new artists. Purchases made support CTAC programs and scholarships for students wishing to further their education in the arts. In addition, patrons can "Give the Gift of Art" by purchasing a specialty glass ornament from our Giving Tree in $25 and $50 increments.

The Crooked Tree Arts Center is at 461 N. Mitchell St. The bazaar is open during regular business hours and all CTAC special events. For details, visit or call 347-4337.

'Walk for Hope'

Traverse City — Christ's Hope International is hosting the "Des 'tination" Walk for Hope on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The five-mile walk starts at 9:30 a.m. from Bayview Wesleyan Church, 720 Wayne St., up the TART Trail and back. It will be followed by a free chili cook-off lunch and presentation at Bayview Wesleyan from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The fund-raising event is named for Desmond "Des" Marshall, director of Christ's Hope's Care and Compassion ministry in Kenya, Africa, who will lead the walk and give the program. Funds raised will help provide hospital and medical care, medicine and basic food supplies for those suffering from AIDS in eight countries in Africa.
