Today is deadline for cookie orders

TRAVERSE CITY -- Today is the deadline to place orders for the Traverse Bay Mennonite Youth Group's annual fundraiser cookie bake sale. Price is $5.50 per dozen for baked cookies or ready-to-bake dough. Cookie pick-up day is Dec. 5 at Traverse Bay Mennonite Church, 915 Carver. Free delivery for orders of more than five dozen is available on orders of more than five dozen. Proceeds will benefit the group's mission trip to Nicaragua. Call 946-5597.

Guest speaker talks on Unity philosophy

TRAVERSE CITY -- Unity Church of Traverse City will sponsor a presentation by guest speaker Jay Littell at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 3600 Five Mile Road.

Voice social concerns at meeting

Congregation honors TC couple

Study session will change location

TRAVERSE CITY -- Congregation Ahavat Shalom has changed the location of its Dec. 6 Learner's Minyan and Lunch and Learn programs. The Minyan will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. and the Lunch and Learn will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the office of Senior Benefit Solutions, 236-1/2 E. Front St.

Submissions sought for Advent Art Show

TRAVERSE CITY -- Art in any medium is being accepted for The Potter's House annual Advent Art Show. Works should embody or express the universal human themes of blessing, loss, exile and return.

The Potter's House meets at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St., where an opening reception for the show will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. The art also will be displayed during The Potter's House weekly worship gathering at 5 p.m. each Sunday during Advent.

Holiday event at Zion Lutheran

PETOSKEY -- Zion Lutheran Church will sponsor a Christmas Cookie Walk and Craft Sale including a children's party and play area as well as Pamper Yourself for the Holidays spa treatments from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at the church, 500 W. Mitchell St.

Baked goods will be available for $3 a dozen or $5 for two dozen as well as Barbie dolls and Marie Osmond porcelain greeting card dolls and handmade greeting cards.

Chair massages, pedicures and manicures will be available for donations with proceeds benefitting outreach efforts throughout the community.

Advent Night events at Central UM

TRAVERSE CITY -- Central United Methodist Church will sponsor an Advent Night Celebration from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 222 Cass St.

The event, which includes a spaghetti dinner, cookie sale and Giving Tree ornament sales is open to the public.

Church Women United meeting

TRAVERSE CITY -- Church Women United will sponsor a gathering from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Salvation Army, 1239 Barlow St. Participants should bring food items for Christmas baskets as well as a dish to share for a fellowship luncheon and table service.

Church prepares for Christmas season

WILLIAMSBURG -- The Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 5750 Williamsburg Road, will celebrate the Hanging of the Greens in preparation for the Christmas season as a part of the Sunday service on Dec. 7. Participants will decorate the sanctuary after the regular service. Following the hanging of the greens, the members and guests will join in a potluck dinner in the church recreation hall. Night in Bethlehem at Elk Rapids church

TRAVERSE CITY -- Grace Episcopal Church will offer an Advent Quiet Morning on Dec. 6 at the church, 341 Washington St. There will be two presentations from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. Winterfest will feature cookie sale

TRAVERSE CITY -- St. Francis Catholic Church's "Come to CHRISTmas through Art and Music" festival will be held Dec. 6 and 7 at St. Francis High School, 123 E. Eleventh St.

Events on Dec. 6 include an art show, cookie sale, Chinese auction and a silent auction from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., a Children's Advent Sampler from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a soup and salad lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a Starlight Evening Celebration with music and desserts from 6 to 10 p.m.

The cookie sale will feature more than 10,000 cookies and treats for $7 per pound. Credit cards will be accepted.

Activities on Dec. 7 feature a family brunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon, a Children's Advent Sampler from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., a family dinner from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and the St. Francis Choir and Children's Pageant at 1:30 p.m. Auction bidding and raffle drawings will conclude at 3 p.m.

TRAVERSE CITY -- Homemade and hand-decorated cookies will highlight Trinity Lutheran Church's 10th annual Christmas Cookie Sale.

Shoppers can select from more than 18,000 cookies in at least 27 different varieties starting at 9 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the Trinity Lutheran gym, 1003 S. Maple St. Cookies will be sold by the dozen and prices vary. There also will be variety packs and pet treats. Free coffee and sample cookies will be served.
