Glass Mosaic Gallery will host open house

TRAVERSE CITY -- Glass mosaic artist Brian Strickland will hold an open house at his Glass Mosaic Gallery.

Aerial theater group performs for adults

TRAVERSE CITY -- San Francisco-based Bow & Sparrow will premiere "Neverafter," an aerial fairy tale for grown-ups at InsideOut Gallery.

Bow & Sparrow's performance is a blend of dance, circus and aerial arts, rhythmic tap, theater and comedy improv. "Neverafter" will have a two-day engagement on Thursday and Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. at InsideOut, 229 Garland St., in the downtown Warehouse District.

Bayside Travellers host contra dance

TRAVERSE CITY -- Tanglemere will play music for dancing and Dan Gorno will be the caller for a contra dance hosted by Bayside Travellers County Dance Society.

The event will be held on Nov. 14 at Twin Lakes Park, 6800 N. Long Lake Road. A lesson in contra-dance basics will be offered from 7 to 7:45 p.m., followed by contra and square dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. No experience or partners are needed and everyone is welcome. Dances will continue on the second Saturday of each month until June 2010.

Dance for teens is Saturday at Y

TRAVERSE CITY -- A teen dance will be held Saturday at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA.

Admission is $5 for students with a student ID (required). The dance is scheduled for 7:30 to 10 p.m. The Y is at 3000 Racquet Club Drive.

Cookbook author signing books

TRAVERSE CITY -- Cookbook author and cooking school teacher Helen Puckett DeFrance will be signing books Saturday.

DeFrance will be at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front St., in downtown Traverse City from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. She is the author of "At Home Cafe" and "At Home Cafe: Gatherings for Friends and Family."

Films spotlight drug abuse, addiction

TRAVERSE CITY -- An evening of films and panel discussions about prescription drug abuse and addiction begins at 5:45 p.m. Monday at the State Theatre.

Featured films include "One Woman's Story," a short film produced by Munson Behavioral Health, "Project Lazarus" and "Worth Saving." Award-winning clips by local students from a contest sponsored by Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services also will be featured.

Wednesday sales help Father Fred

TRAVERSE CITY -- Lil Bo Pub and Grille will donate 15 percent of its sales Wednesday to the Father Fred Foundation.

The pub, at 540 W. Front St., is also collecting canned and dry goods all week. All the money from a $5 raffle for door prizes Wednesday will also go to Father Fred.
