Jazz at Sunset at Chateau Chantal

TRAVERSE CITY -- Saxman George Benson will join the Jeff Haas Trio for Chateau Chantal's Last Sunday Jazz at Sunset Sunday from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

Along with Benson, Haas will be at the grand piano, Jack Dryden on upright bass and David Collini on drums. The group performs new arrangements of jazz classics and selections from Haas' originals. Sunday's gathering also includes a wine tasting and discussion with vintner Mark Johnson.

Preview tonight for Gladhander

TRAVERSE CITY -- The annual Gladhander auction gets underway tonight at St. Francis High School.

Marking its 25th year, this year's event offers more than 800 items including a boat, vacations, jewelry, a snowmobile, one-of-a-kind collectibles and a variety of other items.

Tonight is Preview Night, open to the public -- adults only -- from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The main event kicks off Saturday at 5 p.m., with guests being treated to a gourmet dinner and midnight breakfast.

The event raises about eight percent of the total operating budget for Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools. For complete information, call 941-GLAD.

Silent film, live music in Acme

ACME -- The Music House Museum presents the silent film, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," on Saturday at 5 and 7:30 p.m.

The groundbreaking 1920 silent film directed by Robert Wiene will be accompanied live by Dale Zieger at the Wurlitzer Theater Organ. Call for reservations at 938-9300.

Monoprints session at the Artcenter

TRAVERSE CITY -- A monoprints workshop with instructor Joan Gallagher Richmond will be held at the Artcenter on Saturday.

Hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $100 for members, $110 for others, with a limit of 10 students.

Bowers Harbor Inn holds ghostly dinner

TRAVERSE CITY-- Bowers Harbor Inn holds a dinner with the theme of exploring its own ghost on Saturday at 7 p.m.

"The True Legend of Charles and Genevive" will be based on the paranormal explorations of Kat Tedsen and Bev Rydel. The tale is part of an upcoming book, "Haunted Travels of the Michigan Vacation Guide." For more information, call 223-4222.

Author to visit Dog Ears Books

NORTHPORT -- Erin O. Hartman will read from her new book, "Hope for Carsonville: A Daughter's Memoir," at Dog Ears Books Saturday.

There will be an opportunity following the 2 p.m. reading for visitors to talk with the author. Hartman will also be signing books.
