Third Level will host Street Night TRAVERSE CITY -- Third Level Crisis Center Street Outreach will host a Street Night in an effort to focus community awareness on homeless, runaway and at-risk youth. The event will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at the Grand Traverse County Skate Park. Representatives from Downtown Skate and Brick Wheels will offer demonstrations and there also will be a DJ, refreshments and prizes. Admission is free and the public is welcome. To learn more, call 922-4800. Program on talking to teens about sex KALKASKA -- Dr. Meg Meeker, a Traverse City pediatrician and author, will discuss how and why to talk with teens about sex. Meeker specializes in adolescent health, specifically teen sexual activity and sexually transmitted diseases. She is the author of "Epidemic: How Teen Sex is Killing Our Kids" and other books. The program will start at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Kalkaska High School Auditorium. There will be time for questions and answers. Airway Oxygen picnic open to public TRAVERSE CITY -- In an effort to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Airway Oxygen is opening its customer appreciation picnic to the public. The community is invited to the picnic from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Airway Oxygen, 1364 Trade Centre Dr. Bratwurst, hot dogs and other refreshments will be served and WCCW will broadcast live from 2 to 4 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Benefit for Moms & Tots Center ELLSWORTH -- A benefit banquet will be hosted Oct. 4 for the Moms & Tots Center. The center serves the needs of pregnant girls and single mothers and their babies in southern Charlevoix and northern Antrim County. It is a ministry of Good Samaritan Family Services of Ellsworth. The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. at Ellsworth Elementary School and will be followed by music and testimonies. There is no charge, but a free-will offering will be accepted. Track Club hosts Remembrance Run TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Track Club will host a Remembrance Run on Oct. 4 to raise money for the Women's Cancer Fund. The Women's Cancer Fund provides financial help to women diagnosed with breast cancer who have no other financial means. More than 550 local women have benefitted from nearly $350,000 in assistance from the fund. Both the non-competitive 5-kilometer run/walk and one-mile fun run/walk will start at 10 a.m. at Timber Ridge Resort, 4050 Hammond Road. A Breast Health Fair will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. The registration fee is $20 before Saturday. Late registration or registration at the event is $25. Free physical clinic for Special Olympics TRAVERSE CITY -- Athletes interested in participating in any Special Olympic sports can take advantage of a free physical clinic on Oct. 7. All Special Olympic athletes must have a current physical form on file. The free physicals are good for three years. The clinic will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Adult Work Center, 880 Parsons Rd. adjacent to the Career-Tech Center. Breast Cancer Recovery Program TRAVERSE CITY -- The Recovery Plus Program will be held Oct. 11 for women who have had or are currently living with breast cancer. It is sponsored by Zonta Club of Traverse City. The program will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waterfront Conference Center, U.S. 31 North. It will include presentations, discussions and demonstrations, lunch and a fashion show. Tickets are $20 each and scholarships are available. Tours will spotlight senior living options TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Senior Center, The Alliance and Choice Connections are offering Senior Home Tours designed to help take the confusion out of finding the right senior living facility for yourself or a loved one. Pine Rest offers DBT programming TRAVERSE CITY -- Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services Traverse City Clinic now is offering DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) outpatient treatment. DBT is an intensive program designed to help people with histories of chronic suicide attempts, suicidal ideation, urges to self-harm and patterns of self-harming behaviors.
