Downtown TC will come alive with art

TRAVERSE CITY -- Friday Night Live community block party continues tonight with an "Art's Alive" theme.

Twisted Fish hosts show by fiber artists

ELK RAPIDS -- Sixteen artists from the DaBoss Fiber Art Group will show their work at Twisted Fish Gallery.

The show will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the gallery, 10443 S. Bayshore. It may be viewed through Sept. 7. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call 264-0123.

Local designers to hold trunk show

TRAVERSE CITY -- The public is invited to a "Local Designers' Trunk Show" on Saturday.

The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 512 W. 13th St. and will feature unique hand-made clothing, jewelry, accessories, bags and "little treasures." For details, call 392-2528.

Gallery Fifty shows mixed media works

TRAVERSE CITY -- Mixed media works by Linda Chamberlain and Ginnie Cappaert will be on display at Gallery Fifty.

Children's book author does signings

MAPLE CITY -- Maple City author Dee Newman Wilkinson will sign her children's book in Petoskey and Traverse City.

Wilkinson will sign copies of "Papa, How Do You Know" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday at Horizon Books, 319 E. Mitchell St., Petoskey; and 5:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 22 at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front St., Traverse City. Call 228-4262.

Area singles invited to monthly dance

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Singles group will host a dance at Streeters Entertainment Center, 1669 S. Garfield.

Area singles ages 21 and older are invited to dance to the music of the variety band Blue Mirage from 7 to 11 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $7 per person and a cash bar will be available. For details, call 946-1553.

A 'Lot' of Jazz in the parking lot at Lil Bo

TRAVERSE CITY -- Lil Bo will fill its parking lot with a "Lot" of Jazz on Sunday.

The event opens at 1 p.m. with entertainment from 2 to 6 p.m. by Bo Bossa, Ron Getz and Ronnie Hernandez at Lil Bo, 540 W. Front St. The cover charge is $5. There also will be food and drink specials and a full bar. Payment is cash only.

Footliters hold 'Godspell' auditions

CADILLAC -- The Cadillac Footliters will hold auditions for its upcoming production of "Godspell."

Written by Stephen Schwartz, the musical is a series of parables taken primarily from the Gospel of St. Matthew. It will be directed by Jean Nicholas and John Martek.

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at First Covenant Church, 315 E. Pine St. All parts are singing roles for males and females ages 18 and older.

Playhouse will host Volunteer Round-Up

TRAVERSE CITY -- Anyone interested in learning more about the Old Town Playhouse, how to participate or volunteer is invited to a Volunteers Round-Up.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Playhouse, 148 E. Eighth St. Attendees may tour the playhouse, meet with current volunteers and staff and enjoy light refreshments. Call 947-2210, ext. 105.

Reservations for 'In the Drink' event

BELLAIRE -- Reservations are being taken for the "In the Drink" reception and pontoon cruise.

The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dewitt Marine, 6509 Crystal Springs Road. It will open with a program on efforts being taken to protect the area's rivers, lakes and streams and will close with refreshments and a pontoon ride.
