Benzonia -- "Meals on Wheels" plates for the Benzie County Council on Aging are now on sale.
The plate is a paper symbol of the Meals on Wheels program, which is one of many services offered by the Benzie County Council on Aging. It allows homebound seniors ages 60 and older to have a hot nutritious meal Monday through Friday, along with frozen meals on weekends and holidays, lunches and breakfast bags. For many this means the difference between staying in their own home or going into alternative care. In addition, the meal delivery driver may be the only person they see for days.
The Council on Aging delivers approximately 610 meals a week and travels about 180 miles a day five days a week throughout Benzie County. The meals are delivered mostly by volunteers in vehicles provided by the Council on Aging. One of the vehicles needs to be replaced and proceeds from the "Meals on Wheels" plate campaign will go toward the purchase of a vehicle.
Donors can help by purchasing a plate for $1. The plates are available at area businesses.
