July 10, 2009 07:10 am Lake Street Studios opens exhibit GLEN ARBOR -- Lake Street Studios continues its summer series of one-person exhibitions with land and waterscapes in gouache by Joan Richmond. A wine and cheese reception for the artist will be hosted from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the studios, 6023 S. Lake St. Richmond's work may be viewed through Thursday. For more information, call 334-3179. Blues and bluegrass duos will perform ELBERTA -- New York City blues duo Mulebone and Ozark "folkgrass" group Still On The Hill will be the next performers in the Cabbage Shed's Backroom Concert Series. Mulebone features multi-instrumentalist John Ragusa and roots bluesman Hugh Pool. They will perform at 8 p.m. today. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Still On The Hill has fused bluegrass, folk, classical, mountain and Ozark roots music to produce a hybrid style of music that falls somewhere between folk and bluegrass. Charlevoix holds art and crafts show CHARLEVOIX -- Organizers promise "something for everyone" at the 41st Art and Craft Show. The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in East Park and will feature a mix of fine arts and crafts. Exhibit showcases Deans and Saxon TRAVERSE CITY -- "His, Hers and Theirs: Recent Paintings by Royce Deans, Angela Saxon and Deans + Saxon," will open Saturday at Gallery Fifty. A reception for Deans and Saxon will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Gallery 50 is located at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Free Dune Climb concert for families GLEN ARBOR -- The Manitou Music Festivals annual family Dune Climb Concert will be held Sunday. The concert will feature Shout Sister Shout: Steppin' In It with Rachael Davis. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the base of the Dune Climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. There is no charge for the concert, but a National Park pass is required for parking on park property. Free shuttle buses will provide transportation to overflow parking lots. Family dance will feature live music TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse Community Music will host a dance on Tuesday. All ages are welcome. Two shows are set for Aten Place BOYNE FALLS -- Josh White Jr. will be performing at Aten Place July 22, 2 p.m., in a special children's matinee show. The Irish music trio Legacy will play at 7:30 p.m. on July 18. White, who relies heavily on audience participation, released a children's album, "All The Children," in 2007 that included the songs "One Meatball," "Alangator" and "Unicorn." Legacy features multiple instruments and songs from the Irish tradition. They're on their sixth summer tour of Michigan with more than a dozen performances from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula. Aten Place is a half-mile south of Cherry Hill Road on Old Mackinaw Trail in Boyne Falls. Tickets for the children's matinee are $3 for children and $5 for adults. Perry Jones is artist of the month BEULAH -- Perry Jones, a retired art teacher and coach from Traverse City, is the most recent winner of the "Hit the Wall" contest and Artist of the Month at L'Chayim Delicatessen in downtown Beulah. A free wine and cheese party to meet Jones and see his eclectic work is scheduled for Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the deli. His work will be on display through July. "Hit the Wall" is a contest sponsored by L'Chayim to spotlight a different artist each month. The contest is open to all northwest Michigan artists. Photography of Ruth Petzold on display Petoskey -- Ruth Petzold has 72 of her photographs on display at the Crooked Tree Arts Center and will discuss her work during a "Coffee at Ten" presentation. Petzold's work has been exhibited in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Lighthouse Gallery in Florida and has been published in National Geographic, Natural History of Fishes and other scientific publications with Dr. Eugene Clark. "Sea/Safari/Chill: The Photography of Ruth Petzold" may be viewed through Aug. 8, at the arts center, 461 E. Mitchell St., where she will talk about her art at 10 a.m. on July 21.
