Social celebrates strawberries

TRAVERSE CITY -- The local strawberry harvest will be in the spotlight today on the piazza and the Marketplace at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

In addition to fresh produce, plants and farm-related products at the farmers market, delectable strawberry dishes will be available from 2 to 6 p.m. These include: grilled pound cake and wine pairings at Left Foot Charley's; chocolate-covered strawberries and strawberry and cream cheesecake at the Underground Cheesecake Company; strawberry and rhubarb pie from Pleasonton Bakery; strawberry soup from Silvertree Deli; and strawberry smoothies and strawberries and cream gelato sorbetto from Sweet Asylum.

Live music debuts at TC wine bar

TRAVERSE CITY -- Students and instructors from The Music Factory will perform live at Uncorked Wine Bar inside The Cherry Stop.

Instructors Charlie Tomlin, Matt Hathaway and Ben Richey will be joined by many of their students from 5 to 7 p.m. on Fridays beginning today at the wine bar, 211 E. Front St. Uncorked features products from 27 local wineries, five Michigan breweries and two Michigan distilleries.

The performances will give the student musicians experience and help raise awareness about a new scholarship fund being established for students who, without help, would not have access to study.

Rothbury selling single-day tickets

ROTHBURY -- The Rothbury Festival has announced single-day tickets for Sunday.

Bob Dylan and His Band, Willie Nelson & Family and close to 20 other bands will be playing that day.

Tickets for Sunday are $75 plus service fees; gates open about 10 a.m. Follow the signs to the festival's north entrance.

Visit Wildflowers for Jazz in the Garden

GLEN ARBOR -- Wildflowers is hosting "You Jazz in the Gardens" Tuesdays and Fridays through mid-August.

Musicians of all skill levels are invited to bring instruments and join the music from 6 to 8 p.m. both nights, weather permitting. Listeners can bring picnics and wine, relax and listen to and learn about jazz.

Horndogs release new, live album

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Fabulous Horndogs will release their new album, "LIVE at the National Cherry Festival," on Saturday.

The band will play at the "Salute to Heroes" day at the Cherry Festival, Monday, beginning at 9 p.m. They also have gigs on the patio at the Holiday Inn July 12 and Aug. 15. They're scheduled to open for Mitch Ryder at the Venetian Festival in Charlevoix July 23, and will be at Harbor Days in Elk Rapids July 29.

Vintage tractors at Heritage Center

TRAVERSE CITY -- More than 50 vintage tractors will be on display Sunday on Sixth Street and on the grounds of the Grand Traverse Heritage Center, 322 Sixth St.

The free event will start at 10 a.m. and will include John Deere, Farm-All, steam tractors and more. There also will be a display of agricultural photos in the Heritage Center's Community Room and the Museum of History will be open to visitors. Museum admission is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children.

Singer/songwriter appears at InsideOut

TRAVERSE CITY -- Singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III will perform on Thursday at InsideOut Gallery.

Wainwright has had a nearly 40-year career as a musician. His latest release is "Recovery," featuring full-band recordings of old songs he previously only recorded solo. He also has appeared in the Judd Apatow films "Undeclared" and "Knocked Up."

The concert will start at 8 p.m. at InsideOut, 229 Garland St., in the downtown Warehouse District. Tickets are $35 for general admission, $60 reserved and $80 VIP. They are available at InsideOut, Oryana Natural Foods, all Cuppa Joe locations, and at www.insideoutgallery.com.

Tickets on sale for Jeff Daniels show

TRAVERSE CITY -- Tickets are now on sale for "An Evening With Jeff Daniels," scheduled for Aug. 7 at the City Opera House.

Daniels, a Michigan native, Hollywood film star, Broadway actor and singer, is touring for his second CD, "Grandfather's Hat."

"Grandfather's Hat" ranges from the humor of "Have a Good Life (Then Die)" to the poignancy of "Middle of the Night." Alto Reed, saxophonist for Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band, performs on "Detroit Train" and Daniels' updates his lament to being a Tigers fan following their 2006 American League championship season.

General admission tickets are $32 in advance, available at www.porterhouseproductions.com, the City Opera House and Oryana in Traverse City. Tickets at the door are $36. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
