Plant sale benefits Children's Garden

TRAVERSE CITY -- Supporters of the Children's Garden at the Traverse Area District Library will hold a volunteer meeting Wednesday and is finalizing plans for a plant sale Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at 7 p.m. at the library, 610 Woodmere Ave.

The Children's Garden plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the front lawn at the library. Proceeds help purchase seeds and plants for gardens planted by children's groups. Donations of plants and garden-related items may be left near the potting shed in the garden area.

Native plant sale set at Civic Center

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Grand Traverse Conservation District will hold its native plant sale Saturday.

The sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center. Proceeds help the Conservation District provide community, public land management and private land services programs.

'Green' education series continues

SUTTONS BAY -- The Green Garden educational series will continue with presentations on garden maintenance and tools and "no-till" gardening.

Advanced master gardeners Deb Burge and Gabby Thompson will discuss ways to minimize weeds organically, demonstrate pruning techniques and how to deadhead flowers for repeat bloom and more from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 21 at the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station on Center Highway. The cost is $5 per person and registrations are due by May 19.

Gardener Richard Allen will discuss gardening without using traditional methods of turning the soil prior to planting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 27. The registration deadline is May 23 and the cost is $5 per person.

Quilter plans lecture and trunk show

FRANKFORT -- Professional quilter Lenore Crawford will give a lecture and display a trunk show at the Crystal Lake Art Center.

Crawford is best known for her award-winning watercolor-style quilts. Her program and the trunk show will start at 2 p.m. May 20 at the art center, 111 10th St.

Evening garden club schedules meeting

Acme -- A program on tree peonies will highlight the next meeting of the Sweetwater Evening Garden Club.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. May 20 at Bertha Vos Elementary School on Shore Road.
