St. Mary offering Bible school week
LAKE LEELANAU -- St. Mary Parish is inviting all area children to participate in its Vacation Bible School program, "Parachute with the Angels and St. Catherine LaBourne." Sessions will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday from June 23-27. Classes are offered for students entering preschool/kindergarten (4 years old and up), grades 1-2, grades 3-4 and grades 5-6.
Registration fee is $5 per child for the week, due to sponsorships from the East Traverse Catholic Credit Union, Larkin of Leelanau Insurance Group, Pedaling Beans Coffeehouse and the Knights of Columbus.

Bookstore event for movie release
TRAVERSE CITY -- Rainbow Bookstore is celebrating the upcoming release of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" with a Narnia party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the store, 1253 W. South Airport Road. The event will include games, prizes and a screening of a Narnia movie.
The Rev. Rick Miller of Northport Covenant Church will dress in character as C.S. Lewis from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Children can participate in a word scramble, color and pin the tail on the movie character mouse, ReepaCheep. For details, call the store, 946-8800.

Folk/rock concert at Advent Lutheran
LAKE ANN -- Advent Lutheran Church and the New Life Center of the United Methodist Church will sponsor a concert by the folk/rock trio Drake starting at 6 p.m. Sunday at the New Life Center on Lake Ann Road.

Update on Katrina restoration efforts
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Presbyterian Church will offer a presentation by Martha-Lee Bohn, community outreach coordinator for the Presbytery of Mississippi Disaster Recovery Program, at 10 a.m. May 17 at the church, located at 701 Westminster Road.
Bohn, a resident of Gulfport, Miss., has been immersed in Hurricane Katrina relief and reconstruction efforts since the 2005 disaster and has assisted her church in coordinating housing and direction to over 14,000 volunteer relief workers through the years of rebuilding.

START NEW to hear master gardener
Cadillac -- The START NEW series for healthful living continues through May with a meeting starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Cadillac Seventh Day Adventist Church at 801 E. Division St.
With the economy struggling and food and gas prices increasing on a weekly basis, living off the land is the topic. The keynote speaker will be master gardener Mike Sundberg who will be sharing tips on how to grow anything, anytime and anywhere.
Friends Church sponsors dinner
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Long Lake Friends Church will offer a chicken dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. May 16 at the church, 4172 Church Road. The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children between 2 and 12 years old. Children under 2 are admitted free. The cost for a family is $20.

Singles get together Monday
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse Area Christian Singles will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road. The program will include a screening of the video series "Nooma" by Rob Bell. This is the final Monday night meeting before summer break.
