Benzie Area Christian Neighbors was recently gifted with 23 children’s bicycles from McLain Cycle & Fitness in Traverse City and Cadillac. The bikes will be given as Christmas presents to children in the BACN service area of Benzie and Manistee counties.

The bikes were gathered during the summer as part of McLain’s “Trade Up” program. When children whose families purchased their bike at McLain’s need a new bike, 100 percent of their purchase price is applied toward their next bike purchase.

“We want to pass on the love of bikes to the next generation,” Kris McLain explained.

“A big thank you to Kris and Bob McLain for donating these bikes to charity and giving less fortunate kids a chance to find something great under the tree this Christmas,” said David Abeel, BACN director of development. “There is nothing that cheers our volunteers more than reaching out to neighbors in a way that directly helps children.”

David also wants to thank Tim Krause from the Benzie Sunshine Rotary Club in Beulah, who also is founding chair of the Bike Benzie Tour, for helping make arrangements and transporting some of the bikes to Benzonia.
