Northern Notes: NMC nursing program seeks '63 graduates

The Northwestern Michigan College Associate Degree Nursing Program graduated 15 students in December 1963. The program had the blessing of the Michigan Board of Nursing and had already been established successfully at three other community colleges in the state.

The Nursing Class of 1963 Reunion Committee is planning a 50th anniversary celebration dinner on Thursday, May 9, at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road, and is trying to locate the following classmates Ellen Kelley, Josephine Young, Patricia Stone, Dorothea Schaffer, Karen Prause, and Bethany Kramer Goodman, to invite them to the celebration. Dinner reservations are required by Friday, May 3.

Anyone with information on these classmates is asked to contact Mary Pat Randall, marypat13@charter.net or 590-2624. Reservations also may be made with Randall.

Leelanau Christian Neighbors sends a heartfelt thank-you to the citizens of Leelanau County for their generosity at food drives held recently. The food drives were sponsored by the Leelanau County Democratic Party and generously hosted by five area grocery stores.

A total of 902 pounds of food and $514 was donated at The Leland Mercantile and Hansen’s in Suttons Bay, which was given to Leelanau Christian Neighbors’ food pantries in Suttons Bay and Northport. The Empire Area Food Pantry at Glen Lake Reformed Church received $785 and 384 pounds of food collected at Deerings in Empire, Anderson’s IGA in Glen Arbor, and Buntings Cedar Market.

These totals will help both of the food pantries qualify for the 16th annual Feinstein Challenge, which awards grants to qualifying food pantries.
