Thanksgiving dinner at Grawn church

GRAWN — Grawn United Methodist Church will host a free Thanksgiving Day dinner.

The meal will be served from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, at the church, 1260 W. Silver Lake Road. Call the church office, 943-8353, for details.

Day care available on 'Black Friday'

TRAVERSE CITY — The Missions Possible Team at Central United Methodist Church will provide day care for early shoppers on the day after Thanksgiving.

The team is planning two multi-generational mission trips for older elementary and middle school youth. The day care fundraiser will help the team send more than 25 individuals on spring break mission trips to Washington, D.C., to work with the homeless and hungry, and to Eluthera Island to work with Bahamas Methodist Habitat on construction projects.

Day care will be available from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at the Central Daycare facilities inside Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St. The cost is $5 per hour per child. To sign up for the service, call Nancy Wright, 883-3507. For more information, visit www.tccentalumc.org.

Service to ease holiday sadness

TRAVERSE CITY — Anyone, regardless of church background, who finds the holidays difficult because of sadness, isolation or other concerns is invited to a special service at Traverse Bay United Methodist Church.

The "Blue Sunday" service will start at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the church, 1200 Ramsdell Road. Participants will share and listen to prayers, scripture and music that acknowledges God's presence for those who mourn or are struggling.

Cookie walk benefits mission projects

TRAVERSE CITY — The United Methodist Women at Central United Methodist Church will host their annual Cookie Walk on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The fundraiser for mission projects will start at 4 p.m. at the church, 222 Cass St. Prices are $6 for a small box and $8 for a large box.

Place orders for holiday cookies

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse Bay Mennonite Youth Group is taking orders for its annual cookie-baking sale.

The youth will be baking chocolate chip, molasses gingersnap, snickerdoodle, peanut butter blossom, chocolate crinkle, Russian teacakes and monster cookies to raise money for a future mission trip. Cookie orders must be submitted by Dec. 3 and the cost is $5.50 a dozen. Orders may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Traverse Bay Mennonite Church, 195 Carver St. Free delivery within the Grand Traverse area is available for orders exceeding 10 dozen.

Quiet prayer to nuture the soul

TRAVERSE CITY — The Centering Prayer Group at Grace Episcopal Church will offer a mini-contemplative retreat as a way for individuals to nurture their souls in a quiet space.

The "Advent Quiet Morning" will include Taizé singing, scripture and silence from 10 to 10:55 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 4, at the church, 341 Washington St. For details, 947-2330.

Performing Arts Ministry stages play

GAYLORD — Proclaim, the Gaylord Area Christian Performing Arts Ministry, will stage an original holiday musical comedy-drama.

"The Toye Shoppe" centers around a small-town toy shop owner, Eddie Toye, who builds a toy super-store empire after the death of his wife. As he opens his 500th store, a little girl's influence forces him to rethink his relationship with God. The production will premiere at Gaylord Evangelical Free Church Worship Center on M-32 with shows at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5. Admission is free, but tickets are required. A free-will offering will be accepted each night.
