Group will discuss abuse of context
Traverse City — The last three meetings of a group discussing concepts from Manfred T. Brauch's book "Abusing Scripture: The Consequences of Misreading the Bible" will focus on the abuse of context.
The group will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 3, 10 and 17, at Windward Church. The continuing discussion will cover the abuse of literary and theological context and the abuse of historical situation and cultural reality. Call the church, 421-1403, to learn more.
Church Women United will meet
Grawn — The next meeting of Church Women United will be Thursday, Nov. 4, at Grawn United Methodist Church. The ecumenical outreach mission organization is for women of all Christian denominations.
The group will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees should bring a dish to share and their own table service for the fellowship luncheon and an offering for community needs. The church is located at 1260 W. Silver Lake Road.
Craft show has more than 70 vendors
Traverse City — The Immaculate Conception Parish Craft Show will feature more than 70 exhibitors.
The show will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the parish Centennial Hall and school, 720 Second St. Lunch, a bake sale and a raffle also will be held.
Holiday sale of unique bead jewelry
Traverse City — A holiday sale on Saturday, Nov. 6, will feature handmade, one-of-a-kind bead jewelry crafted by Ugandan women.
Through the nonprofit Beads for Life partnership, the African women make jewelry out of beads they fashion from recycled paper. Profits are used to build homes, send their children to school and start businesses.
The sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 6726 Center Road. Items are priced from $5-$30, with most pieces in the $10-$20 range.
