Group continues book discussion
Traverse City — A discussion group at Windward Church will continue to explore concepts from Manfred T. Brauch's book "Abusing Scripture: The Consequences of Misreading the Bible."
The group will focus on the abuse of literary and theological context from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the church. For details, call the church, 421-1403.
Church hosts Oktoberfest fun
Cadillac — Emmanuel Lutheran Church will celebrate Oktoberfest with a bratwurst and sauerkraut supper, family activities and a silent auction.
The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the church, 11198 E. M-55. Supper tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3 to 12, free for children younger than 3 with a paying adult, and $30 for two adults and children up to age 12. They may be purchased at the church, Hagstroms Flowers, Gospel Bookstore, Julie Ann Fabric and Pell's Radio and TV, all in Cadillac. Carry-outs will be available.
There also will be children's games, face painting, pumpkin decorating, a hayride, a bonfire and more. New this year will be silent auction bidding on a twin-size handcrafted quilt. Bidding will close at 7 p.m.
Swiss steak tops dinner menu
Empire — Empire United Methodist Church invites the public to its annual Swiss Steak Dinner.
The meal will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the church fellowship hall, 10050 Michigan St. The cost is $9 per person or a family rate of $18 for parents and children. There also will be a Country Store featuring crafts and more. Call 326-5510 to learn more.
Children invited to Harvest Festival
Traverse City — Games, activities, candy and more await children at a Sunday, Oct. 31, Harvest Festival.
The autumn celebration will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Traverse Bay United Methodist Church, 1200 Ramsdell Road. Dinner will be available and attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for a local food pantry. Call 946-5323 for more information.
