Food drive will benefit KAIR pantry

Kalkaska — A two-day food drive will benefit the Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources' food pantry.

Donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Nov. 13, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Glen's Market, 784 S. Cedar.

Festival offers more than decorated trees

Kalkaska — In addition to 30 trees decorated for the holidays, the Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources' Festival of Trees will feature a variety of raffle and silent auction items.

The event is the major fundraiser for KAIR and proceeds will stock the food pantry and provide emergency help throughout the year for those in need.

The festival opens today, Nov. 13, and runs through Nov. 21 at Northland Plaza on the corner of M-72 and U.S. 131. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and admission is free. A Christmas Store also will be open today through Nov. 20 with a selection of gift items, wrapping paper, ornaments, centerpieces and wreaths. Auction and raffle items include quilts, a snowboard package, a shopping spree, gas gift cards and more.

Special events during the festival are a luncheon and fashion show Saturday, Nov. 20, and Family Day Sunday, Nov. 21. Family Day will include pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus from noon to 3 p.m. and a 1 p.m. puppet show by the Church of Christ youth group.

TC will collect gift-filled shoeboxes

Traverse City — The goal is to gather more than 10,000 gift-filled shoeboxes during the Operation Christmas Child collection drive Monday, Nov. 15, through Monday, Nov. 22.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Since 1993, it has delivered more than 77 million gift-filled shoeboxes to needy children in 130 countries.

Gift-filled shoeboxes may be dropped off at the following locations:

n WLJN, 1101 Cass St., 946-1400 — 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri., Nov. 15-19; 1-3 p.m. Sat.-Sun., Nov. 20-21; and 6 a.m.-noon Mon., Nov. 22.

n Faith Reformed Church's Youth Center, 1105 E. Front St., 590-5069 — 9 a.m.-noon Mon.-Wed., Nov. 15-17; 1-5 p.m. Thurs.-Sun., Nov. 18-21; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon., Nov. 22.

Fundraiser for Cadet Program ministry

Ellsworth — The community is invited to a spaghetti dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 17, to raise money for the Atwood/Ellsworth Cadet Program.

The meal will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Ellsworth Christian Reformed Church, 9323 Main St. Proceeds go to the ministry that works with the local church to share Christ's love with boys ages 7 to 12 through Bible study, merit badges, outdoor skills and more.
