Service remembers Holocaust victims
TRAVERSE CITY -- Congregations Ahavat Shalom and Beth El will sponsor "From Holocaust to Hope" a Holocaust memorial service, at 3 p.m. Sunday at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St.
The observance of Yom Hashoah commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and recognizes the continuing horrors of holocausts today.
Representatives from ethnic and religious traditions will participate in the service.

Register for 08-09 at Baraga Catholic
Cheboygan -- Bishop Baraga Catholic School currently is accepting preschool through eighth grade student registrations for the 2008-2009 school year. The open registration for families new to the school is being conducted from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the school located at the corner of Western and Lincoln avenues. Support in coping with divorce
Williamsburg-- New Hope Community Church will begin a DivorceCare support group and seminar Monday at the church, 5100 Bethesda Ct. Meetings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday through July 28.

Fundraiser dinner at Traverse Bay
TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse Bay United Methodist Church will sponsor its monthly Swiss Steak and Chicken Dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, 1200 Ramsdell Road, The cost is $8 for adults, $3.50 for children 4-10 years of age. Children under 4 are free.

Expert discusses stem cell research
TRAVERSE CITY -- Dr. Daniel Pepin, a professor and bioethics consultant for the Diocese of Gaylord and the Diocese of Venice, Fla., will discuss the topic "Stem Cell Research: Fact or Fiction?" during the Ave Maria Founders' Club dinner on May 21 at Immaculate Conception Church, 720 Second St.
Dr. Pepin will address the complicated and often confusing issues surrounding stem cell research and human cloning from a scientific, ethical and understandable approach.
Registration is at 5:30 p.m. followed by Mass at 6 p.m. with dinner and the presentation to follow. The cost for the dinner is $10.

Mother's Day dance in Maple City
Maple City-- The St. Rita/St. Joseph Men's Club will sponsor a Mother's Day Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight May 10 with doors opening at 7:30 p.m.
The dance will feature music from Mike Ryba's Happy Polka Sound group from Wisconsin. Donation of $10 per person benefits the church's education department.
Sponsors needed for RTL golf outing
TRAVERSE CITY -- The 11th annual Life Links Memorial Golf Benefit will take place May 22 on The Wolverine golf course at the Grand Traverse Resort. The outing is a four-person scramble tournament, beginning with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Players will enjoy 18 holes of golf for $130, which includes cart, a steak and chicken dinner, and a chance to win prizes.
For a donation of $1,000, businesses or individuals may be listed as corporate sponsors on publicity materials. A $500 donation qualifies for recognition as a tournament sponsor. Additional sponsorships include hole sponsors for $200, tee sponsors for $100. Memorial sponsorships in honor of a loved on or special occasion, are available for $50.

Project Unity for Life fundraiser
Traverse City-- Project Unity for Life will sponsor a golf outing May 23 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme.
The ministry's spring fundraiser gets under way with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. on the Wolverine course. Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m.
The day includes raffles, live auction and dinner. Cost is $95 per player or $380 per foursome and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and dinner. Commemorative golf shirts are available at cost during registration and for a retail price at the event.

Bethany Lutheran observes 90th year
Northport-- Bethany Lutheran Church is celebrating its 90th anniversary with events planned throughout the spring and summer months. A Hymn Sing is planned for 7 p.m. May 25 at the church, 220 W. Nagonaba St.
