Spirituality expert offers program
TRAVERSE CITY -- Spiritual teacher, healer and author Dr. Michael Mirdad will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday at Unity Church, 3600 Five Mile Road. Dr. Mirdad also will hold an afternoon workshop from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. that day at the church.
Mirdad has been featured at expos and conferences and has presented his theories on spirituality, relationships and healing on radio, television and various internet programs.

Expert discusses healing therapy
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Grand Traverse Area Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in Conference Room E of Munson Community Health Center, 550 Munson Ave. The meeting will feature registered nurse and massage therapist Stevie Cole speaking on "Helping to Heal Through Touch."

National Day of Prayer observance
BENZONIA -- The Benzie National Day of Prayer Task Force will observe the 57th annual National Day of Prayer with a breakfast from 7 to 8 a.m. Thursday at the Hungry Tummy Restaurant in Beulah. Dinner kicks off church fundraiser
LAKE ANN -- Advent Lutheran Church, ELCA, will offer a spaghetti supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Almira Township Hall. The event will kick off a fundraising effort to purchase property for a new church home. Cost for spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and beverage is $5 for adults, $3 for children or $15 per family. Fundraiser supports church, mission trip
TRAVERSE CITY -- First Congregational Church will serve a home-cooked Chicken Parmesan dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The public is invited to dine in or drive through and take out at the church, 6105 Center Road, one mile north of Garfield and Front Street on Old Mission Peninsula.
Cost for the entree, including linguine, Caesar salad and garlic bread is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 12 and under. Cookies will be sold in bags of four for $1.
The event is a fund raiser for the church and also for the church's June mission trip to Belize, where a team of youth and adults will assist with the construction of a Christian high school on the island of Caye Caulker. Tickets may be purchased at the church or call the church office, 947-6698, to reserve tickets. Tickets will also be available at the door as supply permits.
Women's group will meet in Northport
TRAVERSE CITY -- Church Women United will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 220 W. Nagonaba St. in Northport.

Gospel singer will offer concert May 3
GRAWN -- Southern Gospel music artist Ken Osborne will perform in concert at 7 p.m. May 3 at Grawn United Methodist Church, 1260 W. Silver Lake Road S.
Osborne served for 21 years as music director for College Terrace Wesleyan Church in Traverse City and has performed with several quartets throughout the Midwest.
Program helps abuse victims cope
Cadillac-- The support group Healing Private Wounds will present the program "Sexual Abuse: How to Heal, How to Prevent, How to Conquer" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 at the Cadillac United Methodist Church, 1020 East Division St.
Keynote speakers will be Sheila Johnson, a sexual abuse therapist from Chicago and Shirley Jo Peterson, a nurse and author of "The Whisper" from Cadillac. Guitarist Sheree Hanna will offer special music. The program will include a question-and-answer time by a panel of sexual abuse survivors. Annual spring hymn sing in Beulah
BEULAH -- The Benzie County Ministerial Association will conduct its third annual Spring Sing starting at 4 p.m. May 4 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 8190 Lincoln Road.
The sing-along will combine audience participants' voices with several church choirs led by retired Methodist minister the Rev. Marv Rosa. This year's event will feature the stories behind some of the great hymns and their composers. For details, call 651-0311.

Tea time event for youth missions
Traverse City-- The Northern Lakes Community Church Youth Group will be serving High Tea to prospective and current residents of the Village at Bay Ridge at 2 p.m. May 10 in the West Dining Room, 3850 Scenic Ridge. The youth group also will be providing entertainment.
The tea is free to participants; however the group hopes to raise funds to support their summer mission trip to Copperhill, Tenn., by having adult leaders approach area businesses and individuals with ties to the Village to sponsor tables. The price for a full table is $500; partial sponsorships can be arranged. The church is attempting to raise funds to support some 33 youth and adults on their mission. Greensky Hill Church craft sale
Charlevoix-- The historic Native American Greensky Hill Church, Old US-31 N., will sponsor its fourth annual craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10. Highlights include wood furniture crafter Kent Libbey and native flute maker Matt Koontz as well as many other crafters.
Food, including fry bread, will be available throughout the day. Proceeds will go towards July camp meeting expenses with guest minister Rev. Carol Lakota Easton from Peoria, Ill.
Update on Katrina restoration effort
Traverse City-- The Presbyterian Church will offer a presentation by Martha-Lee Bohn, community outreach coordinator for the Presbytery of Mississippi Disaster Recovery Program, at 10 a.m. May 17 at the church 701 Westminster Road.
Bohn, a resident of Gulfport, Miss., has been immersed in Hurricane Katrina relief and reconstruction efforts since the 2005 disaster and has assisted her church in coordinating housing and direction to over 14,000 volunteer relief workers through the years of rebuilding.
