Two new exhibits at History Center

TRAVERSE CITY — The History Center of Traverse City has opened two new exhibits, “Traverse History From Above” featuring aerial photos from the 1920’s through the 1970s and "The Grand Traverse Region: Vibrant Reinvention" offering a sweeping review of the area's history.

The aerial exhibit covers areas including Traverse City State Hospital, Front Street, bayfront, Central Neighborhood, Civic Center area, Iron works and others.

"Vibrant Reinvention," made possible with a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, features individual panels exploring such topics as schools, commerce and shopping and culture. The exhibit can be displayed as a whole, or each panel can stand on its own.

Individual panels will be available for display at local businesses and institutions. Also, such organizations can arrange for the History Center to research and design an additional "partner panel" examining that specific organization's place in the community's history.

The exhibits will be featured through Memorial weekend, when the Lego “Building Blocks” exhibit returns.

Hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Memorial weekend, then seven days a week until Labor Day. Cost is $5 for all guests, with 4 and under free.

For more information, or to inquire about displaying a panel at your organization, contact the History Center at 995-0313.
