New take on 'A Christmas Carol' in Traverse City

Parallel 45 will perform at InsideOut

TRAVERSE CITY — The Parallel 45 professional theater company will continue its third season with performances of "A Christmas Carol In Prose" at Traverse City's InsideOut Gallery today and Saturday.

The presentation will reflect a holiday party atmosphere, with food, caroling, kid-friendly arts and crafts, and casual furniture shifting the ambiance away from traditional theater-going. The play will boast a trio of professional actors, a magic component and voluntary audience participation.

Co-produced with Chicago's Magic Mouth Theatre and written by cofounders Ben Whiting and Matthew Gutschick, "A Christmas Carol in Prose" is a minimalistic take on the well-known holiday classic. Utilizing only three actors, the show combines Dickens' traditional storytelling with Magic Mouth's signature illusion elements.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Admission for each show is $15, including holiday appetizers and beverages. Tickets are available online at or by phone at 800-836-0717.
