TRAVERSE CITY — Singer Judy Collins will kick off the 2014-15 “Live at the Opera House” season at the City Opera House.
Collins, who was featured on the recent PBS special “Judy Collins: Live in Ireland,” will perform June 1. Other acts on the season roster so far are comedians Rita Rudner, July 17, and Brian Regan, Sept. 28.
Tickets for all three concerts go on sale to the general public today. The series, one of two at the Opera House, runs through April 2015 and books shows throughout the year as they become available.
Collins’ career spans 50 years and 50 albums. She ascended to fame in the 1960s with her clear voice and even clearer message of social and environmental change.
Her PBS special “Judy Collins: Live in Ireland” was filmed in September 2013 at Dromoland Castle in County Claire, Ireland, and released on CD and DVD in March after airing around the country. It features Irish tunes and songs with an Irish feeling, including one she wrote for the special, “New Moon Over the Hudson.”
Opera House audiences are likely to hear many of those songs, along with favorites and covers most recently heard on another PBS special, 2013’s “Judy Collins: Live at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.”
