Peshawbestown powwow weekend

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians holds its annual powwow, featuring American Indian singers, dancers and artists this weekend, Aug. 18-19, in Peshawbestown.

TC Waterman

The TC Waterman Challenge and Expo features Stand Up Paddle Board races this weekend on Grand Traverse Bay. Races include a 3.5-mile recreational and 10-mile downwinder. Free demonstrations and clinics, kid's races and a luau awards dinner with a Hawaiian pig roast. For more information, visit

Dancing for Paws

A fundraiser for A C Paws is 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Little Bohemia on Front Street in Traverse City. "Dancing for the Paws" features Motown vocal group Street Corner. Tickets are $10. For more information, call 499-4881.

Ducky Festival

Duck into Bellaire for the 25th annual Rubber Ducky Festival on Saturday, Aug. 18. Festival events include a rubber duck race with 2,000 yellow ducks on the Intermediate River. Spectators can bet $5 on numbered ducks. Winners receive cash prizes. For more information, call 533-6023.

Betsie Bay tour

Tour the Betsie Bay from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 18. Learn about Great Lakes coastal marshes and invasive plants that threaten them. Benefit Art Sale

Women's Resource Center is hosting a benefit art sale on Saturday, Aug. 18 during the Downtown Art Fair in Traverse City. The sale features pencil sketches, paintings, photographs, art prints, pottery and glassware. All proceeds benefit the Women's Resource Center.
