Children's Center benefit

NORTHPORT — The Northport Lions Club will sponsor a concert on Saturday to benefit the Leelanau Children's Center.

The evening will open with a silent auction of chocolate delicacies at 7:15 p.m. at the Northport Community Arts Center, 104 S. Wing St. Peter, Paul & Mary Remembered will perform at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children. They are available from any Northport Lions Club member or at the door.

Outdoor painting day

TRAVERSE CITY — Artcenter Traverse City will sponsor a day of outdoor painting on Saturday at the Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park.

Artists may register from 9-11 a.m. at the Garden Visitors Center. During the day, they may bring and sell previously completed paintings. New paintings created during the day may be entered in a wet painting sale and reception from 5-6 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at the reception.

Book store welcomes poets

NORTHPORT — Dog Ears Books will celebrate its 21st birthday today with a group of 11 poets representing "Poetry in Michigan, Michigan in Poetry."

In addition to the work of Michigan poets, the book from New Issues in Kalamazoo includes color reproductions of the work of many Michigan artists. TC Scoop Festival

TRAVERSE CITY — The third annual TC Scoop Festival on Saturday benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan.

The festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at F&M Park. It includes ice cream and food from Moomer's Ice Cream, Blue Bay Ice Cream Company, Culver's, Prairie Farms, Jimmy John's, Great Lake Potato Chip Co., Pleasanton Bakery and Mesick Market. Activities include face painting, fire engine rides, a 100-pound sundae and more.
