Fauxgrass in concert

TRAVERSE CITY — The Fauxgrass Quartet will perform from 9 p.m.-midnight today at InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St. The cover charge is $5 and a full cash bar will be available.


Fall dance fundraiser

KINGSLEY — St. Mary-Hannah will host its fall dance fundraiser Saturday with live music by 2 Ole Broads and 3 Buddies.

The event will start at 7 p.m. at the St. Mary-Hannah School gym. A $15 donation at the door includes drinks and food.

Public Lands Day

EMPIRE — Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will host a beach clean up and offer free admission to the park’s public lands on National Public Lands Day, Saturday.

Beach cleanup volunteers should meet at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center, 9922 Front St., at noon to help with the clean up, which continues until 2 p.m. Park Rangers will provide tools and equipment.

Entrance fees at the National Lakeshore also will be waived for the day and those who help with beach clean up receive a coupon for a free one-day entrance to public lands good until Sept. 27, 2014.

n Sandy Carlson, author of the intermediate reader “The Town That Disappeared,” 10 a.m.-noon.

Potluck, dyeing

EAST JORDAN — Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center, 5745 N. M-66, will hold a community potluck campfire and offer a natural dyeing workshop.

The community is invited to bring favorite treats to roast over a campfire starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. Stories by local storyteller Jim Ribby start at 7:30 p.m. and there also will be self-guided farm tours.

A ‘Maker’s Meet-Up” at noon Sunday, Sept. 29, will focus on natural dyeing. Participants may bring their own fabric or clothing or purchase silk scarves at the workshop. No experience is needed. A $5 to $10 materials fee will be charged and reservations are requested.
