Country artist Niemann sings 'good stories'

TRAVERSE CITY — Country music fan Rachael Warren knows the words to most every Jerrod Niemann tune that hits the airwaves.

So the Traverse City woman plans to be front and center when Niemann appears at Ground Zero on Saturday, June 1.

“He sings songs with good stories, like about relationships and stuff,” said Warren, 24, a fall freshman nursing student at Northwestern Michigan College. “And he’s really good-looking.”

The country artist will perform songs from his CDs “Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury” and “Free The Music” and new material from a a yet-to-be released CD. Hits include the platinum-selling “Lover, Lover,” the top five single “What Do You Want,” and “Shinin’ On Me,” one of Warren’s favorites.

“It’s like a happy-go-lucky song. When you hear it you have a smile on your face the entire time,” said Warren, who likes to listen to country music at the Hayloft Inn. “And it’s a good drinking song.”

Niemann grew up in Kansas and learned to play guitar on an autographed instrument his mother won at a Tracy Lawrence concert. He started writing songs at any early age and performed them in talent contests.

He majored in Performance Arts Technology at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, and began his professional music career by singing and playing acoustic guitar in Texas clubs and bars. In 1999 he self-released his debut album, “Long Hard Road.”

After moving to Nashville in 2000, he began songwriting in earnest and co-write three singles for Garth Brooks.

Others who have recorded his work include Jamey Johnson, Neal McCoy, Julie Roberts, John Anderson, Flynnville Train and Zona Jones.

Advance tickets for his Ground Zero show are $22 plus $3 handling at Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 8.
