---- — TRAVERSE CITY — The Cherryland Jazz Society presents “Dixieland Jam” today at the Traverse City Elks Lodge.
“This is the original jazz the Cherryland Jazz Society is dedicated to preserving, promoting and playing,” said society president Bob Core.
Musicians from throughout the region and beyond will be coming, including Bob Shanahan on cornet and vocals. Formerly from Charlevoix and Petoskey, he now lives in Toledo.
Dave Campbell, one of the founders of The Backroom Gang, will be coming from Columbus, Ohio.
“The idea of the jam session is we have these top musicians coming,” Core said. “There’s a number of bands and musicians involved. Probably 20 musicians will take turns ... and they’re all donating their time.”
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Music begins at 6. Admission is a suggested donation of $5.
A dinner menu and beverages will be available.
