IDLEWILD -- Joe McBride headlines the Idlewild Music Fest, scheduled for July 10-11.

McBride, a Missouri native now living in Texas, says his home in Dallas makes for a great mix of genres, influenced by the jazz and blues scene there.

"We're special because we're not really West Coast or East Coast," he said. "The jazz here is influenced by the blues in Chicago ... as well as the rich zydeco heritage of New Orleans. Then there's southern funk and gospel."

The music festival, which plays to the roots of Idlewild as place for musicians both in their heyday and those waiting to get noticed, is a three-day celebration coordinated by business leaders, nonprofits and the faith community in Lake County.

McBride contracted an degenerative eye disease as a teenager and eventually went blind. "As I get older," he said, "it's more of a challenge to find new ideas to get excited about, but I am grateful that I continue to discover them."

Joe McBride is scheduled to play Friday, July 9, from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Other acts at the festival include:

Friday, July 10
