Registration under way for music camp

PETOSKEY -- Registration is under way for the Summer Music Camp at Crooked Tree Arts Center. String instructors Robert Dudd and Jennifer McAndrew will lead the classes.

Session I will meet Tuesday through Thursday, July 8 to 24 with final performances at 10 a.m. and noon on July 24 as part of the Charlotte Ross Lee Concerts in the Park series. Classes offered include intermediate strings, concert orchestra, chamber orchestra, jazz big band and chamber music.

Session II will be a fiddle workshop held Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 5 to 14, with a final performance at noon on Aug. 14, also part of the Charlotte Ross Lee concert series. This is a new class for beginning-level string musicians.

Classes meet at Crooked Tree Arts Center, 461 E. Mitchell St. Tuition is $50 for one class or $85 for two classes and scholarships are available. To register, visit www.crookedtree.org, or call 347-4337.

Author will visit Saturn Booksellers

GAYLORD -- Free tickets are available for a book signing by New York Times bestselling author Marisa de los Santos.

De los Santos' first novel, "Love Walked In," won success with its story of the unexpected ways people find love. Her new bestseller is "Belong to Me."

De los Santos will sign her book at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Saturn Booksellers, 133 W. Main St. There will be movie refreshments and a surprise for the first 50 ticket holders.

'Concert on the Hill' series set to begin

BEULAH -- The fifth season of the Concert on the Hill benefit series will kick off with a performance by the Four Man Fishin' Tackle Choir.

The barbershop group will harmonize at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the church, 8190 Lincoln Road. A free-will offering will be collected. Proceeds will go to the Benzie Area Christian Neighbors and Dental Clinics North.

Play spotlights southern comedy

BENZONIA -- The Benzie Players will take a comedic look at living and dying in the South with its presentation of "Dearly Departed."

The audience is invited to visit with the Turpin family and other "Southern-fried eccentrics" at 8 p.m. Friday and June 28, and at 2 p.m. June 29 at the Mills Community House, 891 U.S. 31. The play is not recommended for children younger than 12.

Celebrate Fridays at boutique vineyard

SUTTONS BAY -- Shady Lane Cellars will sponsor "TGIF" on Fridays this summer with wine tasting and live music.

The boutique vineyard, winery and tasting room is located at 9580 Shady Lane. Guests are invited to visit the tasting room and let a staff member help determine their wine preferences. Those who continue with a paid tasting will have a choice of four of the vineyard's wines and an appetizer. Visitors can enjoy their refreshments in the winery's backyard under the sun or a tent.

The winery is open for tastings from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Live bands will perform from 5 to 8 p.m. for Shady Lane's TGIF events on Friday, July 25, Aug. 29, Sept. 26 and Oct. 24. For details, call 947-8865.

Chasin' Steel opens Aten Place concerts

BOYNE FALLS -- Bluegrass band Chasin' Steel will return to the stage at Aten Place to open its 14th season of summer concerts in the barn.

Chasin' Steel first appeared at Aten place in 2005. The traditionally structured four-piece bluegrass group has been described as a high-energy band that appeals to hard-core bluegrass fans as well as to the average fan of live acoustic music.

The group will perform at 7:30 p.m. on June 28 at Aten Place on Old Mackinaw Trail. Tickets are $10 and go on sale at 5 p.m. the day of the concert. No food or beverages are sold on-site, but patrons are welcome to bring picnics or snacks and desserts to share at intermission. For details, visit www.atenplace.com or call 549-2076.

Singwell Academy summer season

TRAVERSE CITY -- Nicole Philibosian has announced that the summer session of Singwell Academy Singing School will have an abbreviated schedule.

Philibosian is an internationally-known soprano and instructor of voice at Interlochen Arts Academy for 20 years. She will teach summer classes from June 30 to July 11 with one or possibly two sessions offering multiple age-specific classes each day. Students receive individual voice instruction, musical materials and daily performance experience. Sessions end with a recital on July 11 for parents and friends, with solo performances by all students.

Local musician releases piano CD

LELAND -- Rick Lahmann's first new piano release more than two years is now available.

Lahmann has performed in northern Michigan for 20 years. His newest CD, "Piano Reflections IV," is named in part for his store in Fishtown, which contains the only piano ever in the Leland landmark. It is available at Reflections in Leland, at selected locations throughout northern Michigan and in Wisconsin.
