Clinic offers help for float builders
TRAVERSE CITY -- The National Cherry Festival will sponsor a float-building clinic.
The clinic will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Park Place Hotel dome, 300 E. State St. Participants will learn the ins and outs of designing and building floats in preparation for Cherry Festival parades.

Meeting planned for china painters
TRAVERSE CITY -- One of Traverse City's china-painting clubs is inviting all area china painters to their paint-along meetings.
The group meets at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at 10230 San Remo Blvd. The next meeting is this Thursday. Participants should bring their paints and current projects.

Blossom Days set on Old Mission
TRAVERSE CITY -- The public is invited to a weekend celebration and liturgy to bless the cherry blossoms for the upcoming harvest season.
Blossom Days will include samples of unreleased, barrel and/or reserve wines from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and May 18 at all five Old Mission wineries. The Rev. Edwin Thome will preside at a non-denominational Blessing of the Blossoms liturgy at 12:30 p.m. May 18 at Chateau Chantal, with live music by the Shoreliners Quartet, a complimentary continental breakfast, wine tasting and Sara Lee cherry pies.
Blossom Days tickets are $15 and include a souvenir glass and tastings at Bowers Harbor Vineyards, Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery, Chateau Chantal, Chateau Grand Traverse and Peninsula Cellars. They are available both days at the participating wineries.

Curious George, Arthur plan visit
TRAVERSE CITY -- Curious George is bringing his friend Arthur for a visit at the Great Lakes Children's Museum.
The pair will be at the museum May 18 from 1 to 5 p.m., with a special members-only hour from noon to 1 p.m. Activities include greeting Curious George and Arthur, story time with the "Ready to Learn" team from WCMU Public TV and themed crafts.
The event is appropriate for all ages and reservations are encouraged. Activities are free with museum admission, which is $6 per person for ages 2 and older. Members are admitted free and guest passes will be honored.

Musical revue looks at children's books
TRAVERSE CITY -- Eight stories come to life in Theatreworks USA's children's musical "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie & Other Story Books" on the stage May 25 at the City Opera House.
Featured books include "Amazing Grace," by Mary Hoffman; "Borreguita and the Coyote," a classic Mexican tale by Verna Aardema; "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," by Laura Joffe Numeroff; "Imogene's Antlers," by David Small; "Martha Speaks," by Susan Meddaugh; "Master Man," based on a Nigerian tall tale by Aaron Shepard; "Math Curse," by Jon Scieszka; and "Owen," by Kevin Henkes.
Performances will start at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. The doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The production is recommended for children ages 4 and older.
Tickets are $5 for children ages 10 and younger and $10 for adults.
Theatreworks USA is a professional nonprofit theater for young and family audiences. It is the only children's theater to receive both the Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel awards.

Art curator hosts gallery walk
PETOSKEY -- Gail Hosner-DeMeyere, curator of the "Bobby Kennedy: A Time It Was" photo exhibit, will give an informal gallery walk May 29.
Hosner-DeMeyere will share her experiences in securing this exhibition for the Crooked Tree Arts Center beginning at 10 a.m. at the museum, 461 E. Mitchell St. There is no charge.
