Leelanau school retirees will meet
LELAND — Reservations are needed by Friday, Oct. 15, for the next meeting of the Leelanau Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.
The group will meet at noon Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Bluebird Restaurant. Prior to the meeting, Michigan Senate hopeful Darwin Booher and Michigan House of Representatives candidate Ray Franz will be on hand to introduce themselves and answer questions regarding their stand on various issues. Krista Davis, a representative of Priority Health Insurance, will familiarize attendees with the program and answer questions.

Benefit dinner for Northport Promise
NORTHPORT — The Rev. Marshall and Mary Collins will cook one of their "legendary" fried chicken dinners to raise money for the Northport Promise.
The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in the old gym at Northport Public School, 104 S. Wing St. The price is $15 for adults, $7.50 for children ages 5 and older, and free for children 4 and younger.
Advance tickets are available from Northport Promise Committee members and parents of Northport Promise students. Tickets also will be available at the door.
Computer classes 'focus' on photos
ALDEN — The Helena Township Library will offer two computer classes with the library's tech person.
Robert Vanover will discuss how to organize photos on the computer, including backing files up and creating slide shows, from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 20. He will continue the series from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 27 with "Simple Photo Manipulation." The class will cover resizing photos, adjusting brightness and contrast, cropping, removing red eye and more.
