Resale shop helps TC Christian Schools

TRAVERSE CITY — A resale store that benefits Traverse City Christian Schools will open Friday, Nov. 19.

Double Edge Resale, 1781 S. Garfield Ave., will hold a grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be food from Opa's, coffee from Aroma's, cake, cookies and other sweets. Deals that day include half-off infant and children's clothing.

There also will be drawings for a shopping spree and other prizes and a gift with every purchase.

Series opens with program on nutrition

LELAND — Kristie Yaakoby, a functional diagnostic nutritionist and certified personal trainer, will kick off the second season of the Insight and Inspiration Speaker Series sponsored by the Leland Educational Foundation.

Yaakoby is a 20-year veteran of the health and fitness industry. She will share ideas for healthful living in a program titled "Nourishing Our Children" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Leland Public School Performing Arts Center.

Admission is $10 for adults and free for students. Subscriber and Patron Memberships are available for $75 and $150 respectively. Members receive 10 tickets good for admission to any of the lectures and patrons may claim $50 of their membership as a charitable tax deduction. Proceeds support programming at Leland Public School. Advance reservations may be made at the Leland Public School office, 200 N. Grand Ave.

The speaker series will continue throughout the 2010-11 school year. Upcoming speakers include travel expert John Fitzpatrick, poet/bard Terry Wooten, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Betty Weaver, children's author Louise Borden and former Detroit Red Wing Dallas Drake. Early registration for Kirtland College

ROSCOMMON — Early registration for winter semester is under way at Kirtland Community College and the M-TEC at Kirtland-Gaylord. Kirtland also will offer classes at the AuSable River Park/Nature Center, 100 S. James St., in Grayling.

Courses at the Grayling site include English 100 and 103, Computer Information Systems 105, Math 073 and 074, Accounting 125 and Business 101. Course offerings were not finalized in time to be included in the printed winter 2011 class schedule but are in the computer system.

Registration for winter 2011 semester at all Kirtland locations continues through Friday, Nov. 19. The semester officially starts Jan. 8. For details, call (989) 275-5000, ext. 284 or visit www.kirtland.edu.

Craft Show at Long Lake School

TRAVERSE CITY — About 50 vendors will participate in Long Lake Elementary School's Craft Show on Saturday, Nov. 20.

The show will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, 7738 N. Long Lake Road. Lunch may be purchased and there also will be a bake sale and raffle.

Thanksgiving holiday craft activities

TRAVERSE CITY — Visitors to the Great Lakes Children's Museum on Wednesday, Nov. 24, are invited to participate in special Thanksgiving holiday craft activities.

Craft projects such as centerpieces, place mats and more will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are suitable for children of all ages, with adult supervision. The projects are free with museum admission, which is $6 for everyone 2 years old and older.

Register for WSCC spring semester

SCOTTVILLE — New student registration for spring semester, which starts Jan. 10, is under way at West Shore Community College.

WSCC will offer classes at its Scottville campus and the Manistee County Education Center near Manistee. In addition, online courses and telecourses also are available. These allow students to do much of the coursework and lectures at home or at nearby area schools with limited visits to campus for testing and labs.

All students seeking financial aid must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Information about the FAFSA can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Anyone with questions about the financial aid process can call the WSCC Financial Aid office, 843-5518.
