Students can make PSAs for contest

GRAND RAPIDS — The early deadline for a film festival for students is Jan. 14.

Registration for the Meijer Great Choices Student Film Festival is $5; from Jan. 15-Feb. 11, registration is $10. More than $20,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.

Contestants should submit a 30-second public service announcement "promoting positive choices in character education, healthy lifestyles or celebrating diversity."

CHS hosts Super Science Saturday

Traverse City — Traverse City Central High School will host an open house for families to explore science-related themes through demonstrations and hands-on activities.

"Super Science Saturday" will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Central High School cafeteria, 1150 Milliken Dr. Highlights include making art with a giant pendulum or a giant spiral graph, driving an underwater robot, creating an animated video, making slime and more. Participants also can see a magic show, view science videos and shop at the Super Science Toy Store.

A suggested donation of $5 per person of $20 per family will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Central High School Robotics Team.

WSH Choir stages Madrigal 'Feaste'

Traverse City — The West Senior High School Choir invites the community to its Elizabethan Madrigal Feaste.

The royal holiday banquet as it might have occurred in Renaissance England in the 16th Century will be hosted at 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Dec. 10-12, in the WSH Commons, 5376 N. Long Lake Road. It will include entertainment, seasonal music and a six-course meal featuring Cornish game hen.

The event is one of two annual fundraisers that contribute to the EuroChorale, the school's internationally renowned touring choir.Tickets are $30 per person. Call the WSH box office, 933-7509.

Dancers perform 'Hansel and Gretel'

TRAVERSE CITY — "Hansel and Gretel" will be presented at the Traverse City Central High School Auditorium Thursday, Dec. 16.
