---- — • Traverse City Central High School recently was awarded a grant from the Community Foundation Northwest Michigan Osteopathic Endowment. The $11,335 grant will be used to support the purchase of an Anatomy in Clay Learning System. Anatomy/Physiology and AP Biology Teacher Pam Tejkl will use the Clay Learning System in various lessons taught throughout her courses.

• Jessica Hemming, of Traverse City, a member of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, is nearing the end of her first of four projects in the program. She participated in a five-week project supporting the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. Hemming and the others on the 10-member team focused their time in some of Houston's 369 urban parks. Hemming and her team have returned to NCCC's Southwest Region campus in Denver for a short winter break before beginning a new, eight-week service project with the Community Action Project in Tulsa, Okla., in January. The team will be helping low-income residents with tax preparation. Hemming and her team will complete their term of service and graduate from AmeriCorps NCCC on July 29.

• The following high school seniors were named Outstanding Students in 2010 by the Rotary Club of Traverse City: Cameron Thompson, The Leelanau School; Scott Thompson, The Leelanau School; Mack Sovereign, Traverse City Central High School; Nicole Helmboldt, Traverse City Central High School.

• The following high school seniors were named Students of the Month in 2010 by the Kiwanis Club of Traverse City: Mallory Litwiller, Traverse City West High School; Ryan Williamson, Traverse City West High School; Katie Scott, Grand Traverse Academy; Haley Alizabeth Morris, Buckley High School/TBA Career-Tech Center; Conor Goggin, Kingsley High School; Evan Cover, Traverse City Central High School; Maggie Milliken, Traverse City Central High School.

Stephanie Stevens, of Traverse City, a Chemical Engineering major with a 4.0 grade point average, was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2010 semester at Michigan Technological University in Houghton.
