Manistee bands give holiday concert

MANISTEE --The Manistee High School Symphonic and Jazz bands and the Manistee Middle School Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade bands will give a holiday performance on Thursday.

The concert will showcase the ensembles performing holiday music starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Manistee High School auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public.

Leelanau Children's Center fundraiser

NORTHPORT — A holiday bake sale and bazaar, sponsored by The Best For Kids Action Committee, will benefit the Leelanau Children's Center.

The fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Willowbrook Mill, 201 Mill St. There will be homemade baked goods and holiday items, plus a "Grandma's Table" of small children's items. Hugh Willey will be on hand to provide holiday music.

Craft Show at TC High School

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City High School will sponsor a craft show on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, 3962 Three Mile Road. There also will be concessions and a Scholastic Book Fair for all ages. Call Juli VanPelt, 933-5869, for more information.

Interlochen School holds bake sale

INTERLOCHEN — The public is invited to come to Interlochen Elementary School for a holiday cookie bake sale.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the school, 3113 M-137. Prices will vary. There also will be games and crafts.

Financial aid info for high school seniors

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Area Public Schools' high schools will hold a "Financial Aid" night for high school seniors and their parents.

The event will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the Central High School cafeteria, 1150 Milliken Dr. Obtaining financial aid and other funding options for education after high school will be discussed. A Northwestern Michigan College Financial Aid Office representative also will be on hand to discuss and answer questions about the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) worksheets.

Fundraising night for Cherry Knoll

TRAVERSE CITY — Wednesday, Dec. 8, is fund-raising night at Wendy's for Cherry Knoll Elementary School.

Cherry Knoll will get 50 percent of all dining room sales from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wendy's on U.S. 31 across from Meijer. Cherry Knoll's principal will be on hand to read to children from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Cherry Knoll Brownies will help children make holiday cards for military personnel and area senior citizens.

Proceeds will go toward math and literarcy enrichment programs for students and parents.

Benefit concert for Robotics Team

TRAVERSE CITY — A concert on Wednesday, Dec. 8, will raise money for the First Robotics Team at Central High School.

The benefit will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Central High School, 1150 Milliken Dr., with music by Sophie Kelly, Samantha D. Winkelmann and Soul Patch. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Proceeds will help offset the $8,000 to $10,000 cost for the team to build a robot and participate in the First Robotics competition.

Reservations due for MARSP meeting

TRAVERSE CITY — Reservations are required by Thursday, Dec. 9, for the next meeting of the local chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.

The Grand Traverse Area Retired School Personnel will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Holiday Inn West Bay, 615 E. Front St. The Traverse City West Middle School Choral Group directed by Phil Johnson will kick off the group's holiday festivities.

All Michigan retired school personnel are welcome and reservations are required and binding unless canceled. Members are asked to wear red and green and contribute to the scholarship fund.
