-- Angel Kaley-Wolfe of Traverse City made the dean's list and honor roll at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She also earned a Cooley Honors Scholarship 2006-09. The daughter of Robert and Mary Kaley of Central Lake, she works at the district court in Grand Traverse County.

-- Thomas Smeltzer of Frankfort, a student at Benzie Central High School, was named a College Board National Merit Scholarship finalist. He is the son of Martin and Mary Smeltzer.

-- Jennifer Harig, of Benzonia, a student at Benzie Central High School, was named a College Board AP Scholar, and has qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award. She is the daughter of Andrea Harig.

-- Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corp. named four high school students from Traverse City Area Public Schools as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program: Jamie Endicott of Traverse City Central High School; and Marc Boissoneau, Aria Jelinek and Levi Roth of Traverse City West Senior High School.

-- The following Traverse City Area Public Schools students have been named as commended students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program: Adela Fedorova and Spencer Thompson of Traverse City Central High School; and Lauren Aprill, Taylor Brooks, Joel Collins, Carolyn Vlach and Joseph Yancho of Traverse City West Senior High School.

-- Traverse City Central High School's Novice Debate Team finished in the Top 8 out of 20 teams at the Okemos Invitational Debate tournament recently. Mike Payne and Katie Stanton took first place; David Blesh and Kevin Query took fourth place; Brandon Henton and Alex Reznich took eighth place. Stanton received fifth place and Payne ninth place for the Novice Speaker Award.

-- Brent Ellis has been appointed Spring Arbor University's new vice president for advancement and president of the Spring Arbor University Foundation, effective Nov. 1. Ellis joined SAU in June as special assistant to the president.
