The nationally recognized Student Leadership Fellowship Program (SLFP) at Northern Michigan University has selected a new group of student fellows to participate, beginning fall 2008: Melissa Benner and Sarah Harriger of Gaylord; Jessica Huron of Maple City; and Emma Budros of Traverse City.

Mallory Mahoney of Charlevoix is among 40 Northern Michigan University students who have graduated from the Student Leader Fellowship Program.

Lindsay Annelin, fourth-grade teacher at Norris Elementary School, has been selected as the local Outstanding Young Educator by the Grand Traverse Area Jaycees.

The Traverse City Area American Association of University Women awarded the Minnie Votruba Moore Scholarship to Sarah Johnson of Lake Leelanau, a teacher at The Pathfinder School.

Thirteen students from Traverse City Central High School's Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) Chapter participated in the DECA State Conference: Hannah Barnard, Lauren Blanchard, Hannah Burdek, Jake Carra, Arielle Davey, Hope Dingeman, Carly Fowler, Glover Kosch, Katie Krueger, Kinsey McCardel, Paul Miron, and Arika Starastanko. Miron, Krueger and Dingeman advanced to the International Conference. The chapter also raised more than $4,600 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, ranking them third in the state for fundraising.

Robert Cozad, a senior at Traverse City West, won Cherryland Electric Cooperative's $2,400 college scholarship award.

Laura Cobb, a teacher at Mill Creek Elementary School in Elk Rapids, was named one of 12 Fulbright Teachers from the U.S., and will be exchanging schools for one year with a teacher from Bathgate, Scotland.

Baker College of Cadillac appointed Sarah D. Weber to the newly created position of veterinary lab coordinator. She is responsible for equipment maintenance, stock supplies and assisting students who need help with class assignments or lab practice skills. Weber also teaches several courses at Baker's Cadillac campus.

Two Northwestern Michigan College students have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team: Stacy Fleming of Traverse City and Brooke Keiser of Bellaire. Adviser Kari Kahler of Maple City was named a distinguished chapter adviser.
