Scholarships offered for summer classes

BELLAIRE -- Grass River Natural Area is offering scholarships for the Wednesday Nature Nuts and Explorers classes.

The scholarships are for children ages 4-10 who wish to attend the entire five-week series. Classes are held weekly from 10 a.m. to noon, July 9-Aug. 6.

Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 533-8314.

Osterlin summer hours, classes set

TRAVERSE CITY -- Osterlin Library at Northwestern Michigan College has set summer term hours through Wednesday, Aug. 13.

The library will be open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. The library is closed Sundays.

Osterlin Library is also offering two different levels of free classes this summer, focusing on finding better-quality resources doing research on the Internet. Advance registration is suggested. Contact Mary Beeker at mbeeker@nmc.edu or 995-1015.

Harpist performs, holds workshop

TRAVERSE CITY -- Northwestern Michigan College's music department will present a recital by internationally-renowned French harpist Isabelle Perrin at 8 p.m. July 11 in Milliken Auditorium.

The recital will conclude a weeklong workshop for students of the harp on the NMC campus. As soloist, Perrin will perform with advanced harp students from across the country, playing a variety of solo and concerto selections accompanied by French pianist Damien Luce.

Tickets are available in advance at www.dennosmuseum.org and at the box office on the day of the event. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $8 for students. For details about Perrin, visit www.nmc.edu/music and click on the performances link.

SAU offers special education cohort

GAYLORD -- Spring Arbor University will offer a third Special Education Learning Disabilities cohort at the University Center in Gaylord for fall 2008.

This program can be used as an endorsement (grades K-12) for certified teachers or as an academic major. Up to 15 credits can be used for graduate credit for recertification purposes. Spring Arbor University is also seeking qualified instructors for this program.

Kalkaska offers free summer meals

KALKASKA -- Free breakfast and lunch are available for school-age children at the Birch Street Elementary School cafeteria this summer.

Meals will be served weekdays through Aug. 22. Breakfast is from 8 to 8:30 a.m., and lunch is served from noon to 1 p.m.

All food must be consumed at the site.
