---- — Ninety-four descendants of Carl and Helen Hansen attended the 63rd annual Hansen family reunion.
The get-together, started in June 1949, was held Aug. 4, at the Sandy Wilson residence in Buckley. Family came from Michigan, West Virginia, Maine, Kansas, Alaska and Osaka, Japan, and enjoyed games, bingo, horseshoes, an auction and a catered meal. The Rev. Al Geitzen was the oldest family member in attendance and Emma Hansen was the youngest.
An evening of intrigue and laughter to benefit the Front Porch Cafe in Ellsworth was such a success that Lisa Ackerman and Sheila Vander Ark-Dhillon, organizers of the Mystery Dinner Theater held in August at Castle Farms, plan to make it a yearly event.
The Front Porch is a community, nonprofit cafe operated by a volunteer board of directors. It features a menu of home-cooked meals. Diners make a donation for their meal.
Volunteers help the staff and also help with the management and operation of the restaurant, which is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
"It was a fabulous event and we want to thank our supporters!" said John Hastings, board president. "We raised $37,967 at this first large fundraiser and our event planners did an outstanding job. The monies will be used for operations, the cafe's building renovation fund and the creation of a reserve fund."
Additional fund-raising projects are planned for this fall along with other special events.
