TRAVERSE CITY -- A stroke here and a stroke there.

They're easy to find after a round of golf.

It's also all that kept Michigan State and Michigan from advancing beyond regionals. That also kept a pair of former Traverse City Central golfers from moving on.

Michigan State fell two shots short of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The Spartans shot a 1-under par 851 at the East Regional held at the Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Junior Randy Hutchison shot two rounds under par, finishing with a 1-over 214 for his three rounds. Hutchison shot 75 in Thursday's first round before closing with a 69 and a 70.
