Michigan's major labor market areas, their seasonally unadjusted jobless rates for August, followed by July:

n Michigan, 9.2 percent, compared with 10.3 percent.

n Ann Arbor, 5.9 percent, compared with 6.8 percent.

n Battle Creek, 7.5 percent, compared with 8.6 percent.

n Bay City, 8.3 percent, compared with 9.3 percent.

n Detroit-Warren-Livonia, 10.9 percent, compared with 11.9 percent.

n Flint, 9.5 percent, compared with 10.8 percent.

n Grand Rapids-Wyoming, 6.9 percent, compared with 7.9 percent.

n Holland-Grand Haven, 6.7 percent, compared with 7.9 percent.

n Jackson, 8.3 percent, compared with 9.5 percent.

n Kalamazoo-Portage, 7.4 percent, compared with 8.4 percent.

n Lansing-East Lansing, 7.2 percent, compared with 8.4 percent.

n Monroe, 8.1 percent, compared with 9.5 percent.

n Muskegon-Norton Shores, 9.1 percent, compared with 10.1 percent.

n Niles-Benton Harbor, 8.8 percent, compared with 10.2 percent.

n Saginaw-Saginaw Township North, 8.6 percent, compared with 9.7 percent.
