n Thompson Surgical Instruments, Inc., of Traverse City will be exhibiting several new products to improve spine surgery exposure at the North American Spine Society in New Orleans and at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in San Francisco this month and is also celebrating 50 years as the original table-mounted retractor company.

n Springfield Commercial Roofing of Kingsley was honored as the winner of the 2013 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Small Businesses. This award, presented through its Center for Character Ethics, seeks to identify and honor companies for their commitment to business ethics, customer satisfaction, and community contribution.

n Armor Express of Central Lake; Magna Interior Trim Components of Benzonia; Lear Corporation of Traverse City; Janco International of Traverse City; Listening Ear Crisis Center of Kalkaska; and Binsfeld Engineering of Maple City have received Outstanding Business Awards from Northwest Michigan Works! for their success as employers and Michigan Works! partners.

n Traverse Bay Farms earned three awards at the 2014 Scovie Awards competition, recognizing the top fiery food products in America.

Their Red Raspberry Jalapeno Jam won first place in the condiments category; Apple BBQ earned first place in the BBQ sauce-fruit category and Pineapple Salsa took third place in the processed salsa-fruit category.


n WPBN/WTOM has hired Thomas Jordan as co-anchor for 7&4 News Today. For the past two years, Jordan has been the weather/anchor and general assignment reporter for KMTR NewsSource 16 in Oregon, and KKCO 11 News in Colorado.

n Robert Tucker, of West Bay Exploration in Traverse City and Joey Holmes of LINN Energy in Traverse City, have been re-appointed to the board of directors of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association.

n Joe Francis has been appointed financial representative by Northwestern Mutual in Traverse City. He will be associated with Northwestern Mutual Northern Michigan Group in Traverse City.
