TC store expands downstate

TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City-based furniture store is venturing into the Detroit-area market.

Rob Evina, owner of Woodland Creek Furniture in East Bay, opened the new store, URHOUZZ, in West Bloomfield on Sept. 1. Evina said the downstate store will offer handcrafted furniture that blends modern styles with rustic woods.

“A new image, a new brand, give us a fresh look and allows us to cross promote each store,” Evina said. “We decided to give it a go in the metro Detroit area because there is such a dense population down there.”

Evina said a lot of customers of his Woodland Creek outlet on U.S. 31 North are visitors from downstate. They suggested he open a store in the Detroit area. He’d already opened a URHOUZZ adjacent to his rustic Woodland Creek outlet, making the opening of a new store in West Bloomfield easier.

Woodland Creek shipped more than 2,500 custom pieces of furniture throughout the United States, Canada and Europe in 2012. Much of the furniture is made in Kalkaska.

The store in West Bloomfield is located at 6648 Orchard Lake Road.
