n The first 2013 Constitution Defender Award was awarded to Rick and Lori Dubro of Rico's Cafe in Grawn. The award is given by the Constitution Celebration Committee to politicians and private citizens who honor the constitution with support of tradition, rule of law and service to community. The Dubros were recognized for their dedication and promotion of service to veterans.

n Linda Burton of Interlochen currently serves as membership chairperson of the Michigan Association of Activity Professionals. She is employed as a recreational therapist at Grand Traverse Pavilions.

n Vaughn Seavolt, CFSP, owner of the Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City qualified for re-certification of the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner by the Academy of Professional Service Practice.

n Bridget Carefoot of Century 21 Northland has been installed as the 2013 president of the Northern Michigan Chapter of Women's Council of Realtors.

n Bowerman, Bowden, Ford, Clulo & Luyt, P.C. has announced that Jan M. Geht has become an associate attorney in the firm. He practices in the areas of tax controversy and litigation, tax planning, bankruptcy litigation, civil litigation and appeals, employment law, business organization and transactions, and estate planning.

n Realtor Jenn Dakoske has joined ReMax Bayshore Properties as a licensed buyer's assistant to Matt Dakoske. She will focus on the needs and services of individuals purchasing homes and other real estate in the Grand Traverse region.

Recognition

n The Horse Shows by the Bay Equestrian Festival is "Still Wonderful" according to the North American Riders Group, which for the third consecutive year named the show to its "Top 25 Shows in North America." Last year's competitions, held at Flintfields Horse Park, drew more than 2,500 participants, with exhibitors vying to take home more than $550,000 in prize money.

n SCORE-Traverse City, an all volunteer non-profit organization and resource partner of the Small Business Administration, has been named the 2012 District Chapter of the Year for the state of Michigan. The annual award recognizes the top SCORE chapter for outstanding performance, quality service and community collaboration.
